The Wines
Our mission: Friendly wines with Intensity, Complexity,
Balance and Varietal Clarity !
As wine lovers ourselves, this is what we are looking for in wines and this is what we strive
to offer to our customers: An approachable
but uncompromising and complete wine, to be enjoyed on its own or as an enhancement to favorite dishes.
As we progress through 2008, we will be releasing a wonderful collection of such wines.
For starters, at our December 2007 Futures barrel tasting event, we introduced the first three of these wines, a 2006 Zinfandel (our first - great pepperiness and fruit balance!), as well as the 2005 Barbera and 2005 Clarksburg Petite Sirah (both worthy successors to their celebrated 2004 predecessors!). All three were very popular,
as evidenced by the numerous Futures orders placed for each wine.
As an enticing preview we first crafted two blends to showcase these three wines: Titan V (Zinfandel & Barbera, reserved for wine club members only) and Titan VI (Petite Sirah & Barbera). Only 25 cases were produced for each and, as for previous Titans, they disappeared very quickly. The three wines were pre-released to Futures buyers on May 10 and will be officially released on Memorial Day weekend (May 24th). They are available for tasting at the winery and for purchase on the Solune on-line store.
We also released a 2006 Port, called Starboard (ask us why the name!), made with six traditional Portuguese varieties, even richer than our 2005 Souvenir Port (higher Tinto Roriz and Sousão content), if at all possible.
We also still have available the final bottlings of our 2005 Sauvignon Blanc Musqué (great balance between fruitiness and grassiness) and of our 2005 Fleur de Lune (luscious Gewurztraminer/Muscat blend, touch of sweetness up front disappearing into a refreshing, crisp and long finish).
Later in the year, our 2005 Tempranillo and 2005 Cabernet Franc will be released. Both appear poised to follow in their older 2004 brother's celebrated footsteps (Double-Gold at the 2006 Amador County Fair for the Tempranillo, as well as Gold & Best Sierra Foothills Cabernet Franc and, with 94pts, one of the top 2 Cabernet Francs in CA at the 2007 CA State Fair). The 2005 Sierra Foothills Petite Sirah, another favorite last year, will be released as well.
We will also release at least two more Titan red blends, balancing flavors & aromas from selections of the strong personality single variety wines released this year. Our 2005 Cinq Etoiles, a true five-variety (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec & Petit Verdot) estate Bordeaux blend, also very successful in the previous release (Silver at Orange County Fair), will be completing our red wine offering for this year.
We will also be introducing two new white wines. The first one, a 2007 Torrontes, is Argentina's signature white wine and we are one of only two wineries in the state producing this wine, using grapes from the only Torrontes vineyard in the CA, Silvaspoons Vineyard (Alta Mesa). Lively notes of orange peel and peach, jasmine blossom and fresh herbs characterize this wine. Light and fresh on the palate, it has an excellent balance with a bright and crisp finish. The second white wine is the 2007 Verdelho, Portugal's signature white wine. This variety has a wonderful pear aroma, continuing in the mouth and lingering in the finish, a truly delightful wine. Finally, we will also be releasing our 2007 Fleur de Lune.
All and all, with 15 wines being released, a very promising year, continuing and enhancing the tradition of affordable excellence started in previous years !
